On Saturday, Sept. 21, Lake Highlands percussion competed in the Plano Drumline Competition.

The Plano Drumline Competition is an annual contest against local high school drumline and front ensembles. Percussions play for a panel of three judges and are ranked based on their school’s division.

The percusion have been working on their show music since mid-July and practice every morning from 6:45 a.m. to 8:15 a.m.

Early Saturday morning, band students and supporters came to send the drumline off at the high school before heading to the competition, a regular tradition for the drumline.

“I was really nervous, but I got more confident when I saw everyone in the stands,” Grace Moon, a sophmore marimba player said.

The percussion played through three out of the show’s four movements, earning first place in their division, and received awards including Best Front Ensemble and Quads.
