On Saturday, Oct. 5, the Lake Highlands Wildcat Marching Band competed in the Wylie Marching Invitational and took eighth place.

The invitational is an annual marching contest against 5A and 6A high school bands. Bands perform twice, once in the afternoon for prelims and then again for finals.

The band has been working on its marching show, “Sol,” since July and has been practicing every morning from 6:45 to 8:15 a.m.

“I thought our performance was good, everything was really consistent, and I think overall we did have a really solid run,” Valerie McNamara, a senior drum major, said.

The band placed eighth overall and fifth in the 6A class.

“We competed against some really good bands and I was happy about how we played,” McNamara continued.

McNamara went on to mention that the band has improved since previous years.

The band will be performing at the UIL Marching Contest on Oct. 23, and at the U.S. Bands Marching Contest on Oct. 26.
