As high school students, it’s hard to keep up with homework deadlines and social events. Here are the upcoming events for the month of October.

The 2019 Varsity Revue talent show will be held in the Lake Highlands High School Auditorium on Thursday, Oct. 17 and Saturday, Oct. 19. Tickets will be $5 for students and $10 for adults. Varsity Revue is hosted by the Lake Highlands High School band, where students can show off their talents.

The Lake Highlands Junior World Affairs Council is hosting an International Festival to fundraise for the club members’ global awareness activities and humanitarian work. It will be held on the first floor of the H-building on Oct. 9 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. There will be food and festivities with the Korean Club, African dance team, and more. There is no price for tickets but donations are accepted.

“The International Festival is intended to celebrate the variety of cultures and backgrounds that walk through our doors every day,” senior Brendan Meeker said. “We are preparing for the event by rehearsing a fashion show that gives students a chance to represent their culture. We also will have a photo booth set up at the festival for guests to take pictures and remember the day. Foods from around the world will be provided at the festival so be sure to stop by.”

The Lake Highlands Cosmetology Club is hosting a Halloween Fashion Show on Oct. 22 from 6- to 8 p.m. in the H-building auditorium. Ticket prices are $8 in Room L-C220 and $12 at the door. Popcorn and refreshments are available for sale. There will also be a raffle and prize giveaways.

The Lake Highlands High School Fall Show will be held in the Lake Highlands H-Building Auditorium from Oct. 3 to Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. and on Oct. 7 at 2 p.m. Tickets will be $5 for students (with their IDs) and $10 for adults.

“The fall show, ‘The Iliad, the Odyssey, and All of Greek Mythology in 99 minutes or Less’ is such a fun show for anyone who is interested in theatre, Greek mythology, humor, or all of the above,” senior Amber Bowen said. “I have loved rehearsing for this show and getting to know the new cast members as theatre kicks off its 2019-2020 in full gear. I am super excited with all of the new talent that is being introduced into the program, and can’t wait to see what the year brings.”

The Lake Highlands High School football team will face their rivals the Berkner Rams this Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Boneyard. The next game will be away against Duncanville. Then the following one will be the big Homecoming game against WT White.

Our annual Homecoming pep rally will be Oct. 18 at 9 a.m., with performances by the cheerleaders, Highlandettes, African dance team and more. You may not bring your backpacks inside and you must have your ID to enter the gym.

“The Highlandettes have been practicing their Homecoming field performance production since August. We have been polishing it so it’s the best it can be,” senior and Highlandette Social Committee Treasurer Corbin Youngblood said. “We always have iconic Homecoming routines and we’re so excited to show everybody what we've been working on! We have also been working on our choreography for the Homecoming pep rally as well, and we hope that the crowd enjoys our performance.”
